The Cape Meares Lighthouse, perched 323 feet above the Pacific, this compact 38-foot lighthouse was activated in 1890 and decommissioned in 1963. During construction, access to the area was so difficult that brick-making kiln and blacksmith shop were set up on site. Today the original ironclad brick tower has been refurbished and during visiting hours its spiral stairway offers a close-up view of the original eight-paneled prismatic lense. The lighthouse is located at Cape Meares State Park, ten miles southwest of Tillamook on the Three Cappes Loop road. |
