Tillamook Rock Lighthouse - Seaside - Cannon Beach

Oregon Coast Lighthouse Photos by Forinash

Built in 1880, the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse lighthouse was considered one of the world's most notorious lights. Situated a mile and a quarter offshore on an island of solid basalt, it was considered a triumph in creation and a nightmare to maintain. Nicknamed "Terrible Tilly", it endured seventy-seven years of turbulent service. In 1957 the light was extinguished and later private investors turned it into "Eternity by the Sea", a columbarium for ashes for the dead. It can be seen just offshore in the Seaside - Cannon Beach area, with Ecola State Park providing excellent viewing.
